Please Pick PAWLENTY!!!

So, McCain is totally going to try and step on Obama's speech today by leaking the GOP VP pick tonight. I'm going to guess he does it during the speech -- something nice and classy.

There's been a lot of talk about who he could pick, and all have their faults.

Lieberman -- would enrage Rove and the GOP base, which is good. But he's pro-choice and makes McCain look charismatic. Nah-guh-happen.

Ridge -- Pro-choice, scummy business practices post DHS.

Graham -- File under "Loafers, Light in the."

Crist -- See Graham.

Hutchinson -- Pro Choice. Politico reported she wasn't vetted and doesn't want the job.

Huckabee -- Hates McCain. Is crazy. Busy planning for FOX News show and 2012.

Romney -- Religious nuts hate him. Too many houses owned.

Jindal -- THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS MCCAIN not to pick an exorcist running mate. Plus, if Nawlins gets flooded again, he's toast.

Giuliani -- The POW/9/11 ticket would be fun, but Giuli likes the ladies a bit too much. Can't dodge that baggage.

So that leaves only one person.

PAWLENTY!!! Now, my understanding of Pawlenty is that he's a middiling Governor with some support in his home state, little experience in hardball politics, and has exactly zero national exposure. He's okay on the GOP religious tests AND is likely not sleeping with teenage boys or anything. Which makes him an oddity.

I don't know how formidable he'd be. I've seen him advocate for McCain on news shows, but never face real questions.

Whatever.

The reason why I want -- nay DREAM -- that McCain picks Pawlenty is this:

Diarrhea

Yes, if you look a bit closer you get this:

Diarrhea

The dream of seeing this on cars throughout the country is just too great to be denied.

Diarrhea

So please John Sidney -- please "trot" out Tim Pawlenty as your "number 2." Life is filled with so much sadness, please bring Team Diarrhea to life.

By the way, if he does pick Graham, we'll at least have "Team Fudge Haus."

Team Fudge Haus?  Team Diarrhea?

He should pick one and pledge to put the other in the cabinet as Team Hershey Squirts, hitting both on chocolate and poop themes.

I also like that the sign in back says "unique impressions."  In this one, McCain is pretending to be competent.

No way. No how. No McCain.

Irish Catholics don't have to worry about hate (none / 0)

crimes, bigotry, and being deprived of basic civil liberties in the way gay people do. You'd have to go back a couple of centuries to see real Irish prejudice, which is probably where you're living.

BTW

We finally had a breakthrough in 1960, dumbass.

Remember, Kennedy.

The joke I make is because it actually offends Craig  (the closeted one) and his supporters more than anyone.

Centuries, ha.

You clearly don't know shit about history.

What? (none / 0)

Race didn't have anything to do with what the diarist said.  He mentioned that Jindal was an exorcist... a Catholic exorcist... which is not a racial issue.  It's a crackpot religious issue.

Re: Please Pick PAWLENTY!!! (none / 0)

The glaring flaw with Pawlenty (which is good from our perspective) is that the 35W bridge collapse will come up again and again.

Also, because he was a practicing lawyer, there are probably clients that he can be hit hard on.

But don't make fun of the mullet.  Mullets are cool.  They are business in the front and party in the back.

Plus, I would pay money to see Pawlenty vs. Biden.

That school bus (none / 0)

The picture of the school bus on the fallen bridge surrounded by water would be devistating.  That day, the heroes were the ones who saved the kids on that bus, some at the cost of their own lives or health... the villians are the ones that ignored repeated warnings about the bridge's structural integrity... hmm, ignoring repeated warnings leading to death and injury... where have I heard that before?

A Biden v. Pawlenty debate would be gold.

T-Paw ain't all that (none / 0)

Seriously, he's been running for vice president since he took office here.  Nearly everything he does has to pass the "national aspirations" test before he puts his name on it.

There are some serious negatives to choosing Pawlenty.

The I-35W bridge dropped on his watch.  He shares at least some of the blame for the disaster because he never properly funded MN-DOT and put his incompetant Lt. Governor, Carol Molnou, in charge of the agency so he would have more control and wouldn't have to pay the salary of an agency director.

His Taxpayer League cred is largely smoke and mirrors.  We have had a few tax increases since he took office, despite his pledge not to raise them.  He covers by calling the taxes "fees" instead; even the Taxpayer League has called him out on this.  The state legislature made him look like an idiot when six Republicans crossed over and supported a veto override of a gas tax increase for infrasturcture rebuilding earlier this year.

Pawlenty cannot deliver Minnesota.  If he were to become VP, then Lt. Gov. Molnou would be our Governor; Molnou was a farmer without a college degree before becoming Lt. Gov, and is widely hated (the state senate ousted her from her role as head of MN-DOT earlier this year).  Pawlenty only won his last re-election against a weak DFL challenger by 1% with 46% of the total (we like our 3rd party candidates here).  Hell, we went for Mondale in '84.  We ain't flipping no matter what McCain does.

The worst thing about him in terms of his national ambition is that he's a real conservative and is a major penny pincher; I honestly don't think that he would dole out government contracts at the rate that the neocon Republican secret masters would appreciate.  Considering McCain's age and 12,000 pages of health records, I'm not sure they want someone who practices real fiscal conservatism instead of the oligarchal favortism that is synonymous with the Republican agenda.

I dont think pawlenty (none / 0)

The Obama campaign played the VP game beautifully by selecting Biden. By doing so they are going to force McCain to choose someone who has "gravitas" (i hate the media buzzwords but they are a fact of life now). There is no way that McCain wants the image of Biden on the trail and during a debate belittling Pawlenty on foreign policy. I lurk some of the Repug sites and many of them are scared to death of Pawlenty vs Biden - they are screaming for Romney. But with a Romney pick, McCain may be killing his chances by provoking the theocratic evangelical crowd.

I keep going back to the fact that Portman has been very quiet lately - and that the rally is in Ohio. Maybe all of these Lieberman, Pawlenty, Palin, Hutchinson, etc rumors are being thrown around as a head fake?

"Light in the Loafers" ??? (1.00 / 1)

The Clintons--who are apparently now loved in Obamaland--were defamed as racists for making fairly innocuous comments during the course of the campaign.

But snide, homophobic remarks such as "light in the loafers" seem to be perfectly OK. This kind of hypocrisy often surfaces in campaigns which are based on personality, rather than conviction and issues.

by BJJ Fighter on Thu Aug 28, 2008 at 12:39:09 PM EST

I hadn't heard that one (1.50 / 2)

The Clintons were not "defamed as racists" by anyone credible.  There's an argument to be made that they cynically used race to their advantage in the primaries, but that's something else entirely.  Further, it's water under the bridge now, and we have better things to do with our time.

As for the "homophobic remarks," very few of us here, besides perhaps yellowdem1129, have a problem with gay people in general; it is, however, a serious problem with Republicans, and suggesting that a potential VP candidate probably won't be picked due to rumors of being gay are perfectly reasonable.  Heck; I doubt there'll be a major Democratic gay presidential candidate any time soon... the barriers are falling, but not quickly.

Re: "Light in the Loafers" ??? (1.50 / 2)

Dude. Closeted gay Republicans who push laws that deny civil rights and harm gays deserve only scorn and derision. Charlie Crist and Lindster Graham are so deserving.

It's not homophobia, it's not bigotry. It's their hypocrisy that is fun to mock. Delightful to mock. Craig too. Foley as well. It's sad how one can go on and on.

(And it's not homophobic if you're...)

Do you use racial epithets on black Repubs? (none / 0)

Using your wharped logic--where individuals decide for themselves which minority group members can be smeared and which can't--it's probably OK to use racial epithets against conservative African American Republicans.

I guess your approach could be called "situational bigotry".

My response to this:

And to be honest, that'd be a lot of people's responses.
